::LATEST NEWS [ Jan 26, 2010]::

CENICAFE has obtained around 500.000 genomic sequences from the coffee rust Hemileia vastatrix. The sequences were obtained by 454 sequencing and were clustered in 45,224 contigs after Newbler Assembly. The contigs are currently been annotated and the sequences will be public available in this site and in GenBank.

CENICAFE scientists have just published in GenBank a total of 41.985 Coffea arabica EST sequences. This is to date the largest deposit of sequences for this species, given that before this submisson there were roughly 2.000 sequences in public databases.

The EST sequences were obtained after Sanger sequencing, quality, contamination and vector removal from cDNA libraries from several coffee tissues. These sequences represent an essential resource for the understanding of the coffee genome and the discovery of genes of agronomic value such as those involved in production of the plant, resistance to diseases and pests, flowering, and cup quality. The EST C. arabica sequences and Unigene assembly with SGN parameters can be also retrieved at the Solanaceae Genomics Network site at solgenomics.net

Cenicafe is celebrating, 70 years of achievements!!!!! We want to share with the scientific world, our major technological advancements at the service of the Colombian coffee growers.

LAUNCH OF THE NEW BIOINFORMATICS SITE AT CENICAFE!!!

This is the Bioinformatics site related with the Coffee Genome Project at the Colombia National Center for Coffee Research – CENICAFE.

The site offers information about the Coffee Genome Project, Bioinformatics developments at Cenicafe, training in Genomics and Bioinformatics at Cenicafe, and search for coffee sequences in our own developed Transcript Assembly Database system.

Please feel free to contact us about our Bioinformatics training services and any other relevant information you would like to know about the Coffee Genome Project.

NEXT MEETINGS
